Hi,
In the notes with definitions for D and the angles, do the graph for v2 and the state-plane diagram match with each other? The state-plane diagram starts at (-JL4, 1), while the v2 plot starts at 0V. Shouldn't the v2 plot have started at V1=Vg, like was also discussed in the lectures? Then the v2 plot would match with the state-plane diagram again I would say.
Any comments?

Toby,
v2 does start at Vg at t=0. If you look at Lecture 36 slide 5 t=0 would correspond to the time at the end of theta1. The theta1 interval corresponds to 5th interval from the state plane on slide 4. Hopefully this makes sense.

Hi Joe,
That's what I figured. But if you look in HW10.2 in the document containing the "definitions of D and various angles", v2 starts at 0V. I think that's inconsistent with the state-plane diagram that's right below the graph of v2. But perhaps I'm missing something?

I see what you're talking about. I think you're right, the plot of v2 is wrong. It should be equal to Vg during interval 1 and 0 during interval 3. Slide 7 of Lecture 34 shows it that way.
Are you having any luck with this problem? I have a set of equations but don't have a starting point. Also, why would we solve for u like the problem states. That is usually given because we want a certain output voltage given an input voltage. Any hints would be helpful.
I have eqn for the following
JL2 based on JL1 and u
Beta based on u, JL1 and JL2
JL3 based on JL2 u and delta
JL4 based on JL3 and u
Xi based on u, JL4 and JL3
J based on F, JL1, JL$, alpha, JL2, JL3 and delta
=uJ
based on F, JL1, JL4 and alpha.
Hi Joe,
I'm also stuck with the same equations. The problem is eliminating the normalized currents from the J equation. For the diode rectifier case there is a solution, because the equation with JL3 depends only on ยต. With the synchronous rectifier, all equations I get depend on two currents. I can't find two different equations with the same two currents, which would allow elimination of one of them.
If anyone has a hint on how to proceed, please let me know.
Thanks,
Toby
Hi all,
I don't believe the plots provided with 10.2 was meant to correspond to this problem. The attachment is only for definitions. This is why 10.2a asks for us to sketch i2(t) and v2(t).
Thanks,
Dom
Hi Dom,
Were you able to find a set of equations that allow solving the converter, other than the equations mentioned above?
Thanks,
Toby
Hi Toby,
Like both of you I am having difficulties eliminating the extra currents so I've moved on to 10.3. I'll try to revisit 10.2 if I have time tonight.
Thanks,
Dom
Just list the equations you have. I emailed the professor and he said it's not possible to come up with a closed-form expression. Just have a sufficient number of equations to solve.
